Home for writer Christine Gronseth, celebrating the sentiments that evoke flavors of locality, and exploring the shiny glimmers that make the human heart beat.
About me
I was raised on a babbling creek in a small, rural community in Eastern Washington during an era when summer vacation meant building makeshift treehouses in tall ponderosa pines, catching crawdads in home-sewn nets, and escaping the country through a wardrobe on the page. When I left with my houseplant and goldfish — strapped into the passenger seat — I studied anthropology and pre-medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle, then worked for 13 years as a diagnostic laboratory scientist in cytogenetics, helping pinpoint specific abnormalities in patients with hematologic cancers. Later, I was formally educated as a chef, my cursive name embroidered into a pressed white coat, and somehow found myself working for the most decorated chef in America.
I now live in Brooklyn with my god-send of a spouse and goodest girl, a chocolate mini labradoodle named Beignet, where I’m finishing up my first novel, a quirky crush story about a quiet cafe, sharing my musings and ponderings on Substack, and posting on Instagram about the best, quiet cafes for writing in the Big Apple and interesting upcoming literary events.
